VITACURA, SANTIAGO de CHILE

The conference will be hosted by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), in its main Chilean offices in Vitacura, a district of Santiago, at Alonso de Córdova 3107. The site serves as ESO’s primary administrative and scientific hub in Chile, linking the organisation’s European headquarters with its observatories in the Atacama Desert, including La Silla Observatory, Paranal Observatory, and facilities connected to Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA).

Although no telescopes are located in Vitacura, the campus hosts astronomers, engineers, students, and administrative staff who support operations at these observatories and analyze their scientific data. It also functions as a meeting point for the international astronomy community, hosting seminars, workshops, and visiting researchers.

The original buildings were constructed between 1967 and 1969, initially serving as ESO’s headquarters before its relocation to Europe. Today the Vitacura campus continues to house offices, scientific workspaces, and support services, and sits next to ALMA’s Santiago Central Office, forming a major coordination center for astronomical research and operations in Chile.
