Logistics

The conference will take place at the European Southern Observatory's premises in Vitacura, an accessible and well-connected district of Santiago.

Travel support for Latin American early-career scientists

Thanks to the generous support of CLAF and ESO, limited travel support is available for students and early-career researchers.

In particular, CLAF will cover the travel expenses of two selected participants, while ESO will provide accommodation in eight rooms at the ESO Guest House.

Eligibility: Students and early-career researchers affiliated with Latin American institutions.

How to Apply: Please submit your request by emailing gammaconnection@cta-observatory.org and including:

  • a curriculum vitae (CV);

  • a brief letter of interest.

Applications will be evaluated based on eligibility by the SOC.
Application deadline: 12 July

Lunch

Complimentary lunch will be provided for all registered participants from Thursday to Saturday.

Accommodation

While attendees are asked to arrange their own lodging, we want to ensure you have a comfortable stay in Santiago. We strongly recommend booking your accommodation in Vitacura. It is widely considered one of the safest and most pleasant neighborhoods in the city, offering a great selection of hotels, restaurants, and easy access to the conference events.

Alternative secure neighborhoods for accommodation include Las Condes and Providencia, that offer a broader range of options - particularly Providencia - and are situated at a reasonable distance from ESO.

Practical guide

Weather: Santiago in December features hot, sunny days and cool nights, so attendees should pack light layers and strong sunscreen.
Transportation: The local Metro can be accessed with a rechargeable Bip! card or by using a contactless Visa or Mastercard, or a digital wallet such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. For additional convenience, ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Cabify are safe and efficient transportation options. Please note that buses currently require a Bip! card, although contactless payment options are expected to become available later this year.
eSIM: Travelers can stay connected easily by downloading a prepaid eSIM before arrival.
Safety: As in any big city, it is recommended to keep an eye on your personal belongings at all times, especially on the street and public transportation.
